Somalia, the East African nation located on the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, is susceptible to droughts and dust storms in the summer and floods during the rainy season. It has the seventh highest birth rate in the world, accompanied by the second highest maternal mortality rate, and fourth highest infant mortality rate. The decades-long instability has also led to a 38% literacy rate, and almost one third of children are underweight. Sunni Islam is the official religion of the unstable nation of Somalia. With no established permanent government, Somalia functions under the temporary leadership of the Union of Islamic Courts, which serves as a transitional authority. The Union of Islamic Courts has implemented Shari'a law, creating a mixed legal system specific to Somalia of civil, Shari'a, and other customary laws, known as Xeer. There are 22 people groups in Somalia, 16 of which have never heard the gospel. The vast majority of those living in Somalia are Sunni Muslim and still practice traditions such as female circumcision. Islamic fundamentalists have vowed to eliminate all Christians in Somalia, and murders of Christians are becoming more common.

Praise Report
Praise God that the Somali Church of minority Christians, though driven underground, has withstood sufferings, great persecution and martyrdom (The Bible, Revelation 2:9).

Prayer Request
Pray that God will bring an end to radicalism and tribalism, and that the members of the terrorist group al-Shabaab will repent and fall before the Lord Jesus Christ (The Bible, Romans 14:11).
Pray that the leaders of the country will help unite people by bringing in policies that protect human rights and equality of all people. Pray for peace from the chaos that was created by smugglers, bandits, pirates and terrorists (The Bible, 2 Thessalonians 3:3).

Call to Salvation
Pray that isolated Christians in Somalia practicing their faith in secret under extremely dangerous conditions will courageously share the love of Christ with others and save children who have been smuggled out of Somalia into exploitation (The Bible, Psalm 72:4).

With the world’s third largest Muslim population, Pakistan is the only country created in the name of Islam. Pakistan is also one of the world’s most corrupt countries. Pakistan’s political and economic systems are crippled by the interference of refugees and radical Islamists. Pakistan hosts 1.4 million refugees and at least 48 terrorist and extremist groups – including the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and IS. This year there has been heightened tensions between Pakistan and India over the disputed Kashmir territory. The country’s culture of Islamization with its notorious blasphemy laws has led to devastating consequences for Christian Believers, who experience more violence than almost anywhere else.

Praise Report
After eight years on death row, convicted under the blasphemy laws, Christian believer Asia Bibi’s appeal case was heard, the guilty verdict overturned and she was released from prison (The Bible, Psalm 146:1-5).

Prayer Requests
Bless the government with renewed commitment to appropriately address all the terrorist and extremist groups in the country (The Bible, Psalm 106:3).
Pray for the Church in Pakistan to grow in unity, and call them to a prayer movement, seeking God’s intervention in their nation (The Bible, Romans 15:5).

Call to Salvation
Pray for a mighty wave of salvation to flood this nation, transforming hearts and minds, bringing peace and stability (The Bible, Psalm 51:10-12).
