Day 10

Benin, West Africa
Benin is best known for its peaceful democracy, one of the most stable in Africa. However, corruption remains a significant issue. The country, once hosting main ports crucial in the slave trade, still negotiates shady deals. Poverty increases each year. At the start of this year the government made moves to effectively exile all political opposition. This resulted in massive public protests, with unrest continuing for some months. The nation’s annual Voodoo Day brings thousands of participants to the country’s celebration. Voodoo, a religion approved by the government, has more than 60% devotees and contributes to significant spiritual bondages over the nation, its people and the Church. The country allows for freedom to practice and propagate any religion.

Praise Report
Praise God for the peace that continues to be experienced in Benin. Ask God to protect Benin from terrorist and extremism, and also from political corruption (The Bible, Proverbs 2:20).

Prayer Requests
The government decided the economy could not survive any COVID-19 related lockdown. Pray for protection over the health of the nation, and over provision for the poor (The Bible, 1 Samuel 25:6).

Because this nation has such strong connections with voodoo, it is difficult for people involved to leave it and follow Jesus. It is also difficult for Christians to grow in their faith without dealing with the spiritual bondages of voodoo. Ask God to minister deliverance and freedom (The Bible, 2 Corinthians 2:11).

Call to Salvation
Pray for many children and young people to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. They are the future of this nation (The Bible, Joshua 22:27).

Indonesia, South Asia

Having Southeast Asia’s strongest economy, Indonesia is also one of the G20’s wealthiest. It also has the largest concentration of Muslims, yet Indonesia has an astonishingly high level of Christian presence. More than ten percent of the population are Christians, over 24 million people, with church growth continuing to increase. While Christianity is not illegal, provincial laws can override it and Islamic law is often used. Muslim extremists continue to spread anti-Christian messages in the public sector. This year has seen an increase in violent terror attacks directed at both secular and Christian targets. President Joko Widodo plans to shift Indonesia from secularism to Islamization. Elevated levels of Christian persecution appear imminent.

Praise Report Praise God for the massive prayer movement that is now well established. Millions of Christian Believers are praying for breakthroughs in their own nation (The Bible, Mark 11:24).

Prayer Requests

  • Pray that churches will receive a vision and heart to reach Indonesians that have still never heard the Gospel (The Bible, Matthew 9:37-39).
  • Pray for protection over Christians and churches in the midst of increasing religious violence and persecution (The Bible, Psalm 18:30).
  • Pray for the salvation of the President and his family and friends (The Bible, Isaiah 45:22).
