Day 15

Iraq, Middle East
Modern Iraq occupies what was once ancient Mesopotamia, and the world now knows Iraq less as a memorial to its vibrant history and more as a bloody battleground. The current president is Barham Salih since October 2018. The present Prime Minister of Iraq is Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, who holds most of the executive authority and appointed the Council of Ministers, which acts as a cabinet and/or government. The Economist Intelligence Unit rated Iraq as an "authoritarian regime" in 2019. Since the outbreak of the CORONAVIRUS, Iraq has been taking measures to contain the pandemic. The Iraqi Health Ministry said it is ready to face a new wave of COVID-19 as it is increasing the capacity of hospitals. Iraq is still within the first wave of the virus due to the early measures taken by the ministry, al-Jumaili said, adding that the noncompliance by the citizens during the holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha caused the recent increase of infections.

Praise Report
We praise God for a Chinese team of medical experts who spent 50 days in Iraq to help contain the disease, during which they helped build a PCR lab and install an advanced CT scanner in Iraq's capital Baghdad (The Bible, Psalm 72:12).

Prayer Requests
We pray for the Iraqis as the ministry of health is ready to face the second wave of the disease due to its experience gained by the previous period of work against the pandemic. May they be wise and turn to God for help (The Bible, Psalm 69:32).

We pray that the thousands of tearful Shiite pilgrims wearing gloves and face masks flooded Iraq's holy city of Karbala since the Covid-19 pandemic started will have their eyes and minds opened to the glory of Jesus Christ (The Bible, Luke 24:45).

Call to Salvation
We pray that the Assyrian Church of the East, the Syrian Orthodox Church, the Syrian Catholic Church, the Chaldean Catholic Church and the Armenian Orthodox Church seriously affected by persecution in Iraq will rise up again and proclaim the Gospel (The Bible, Acts 28:31).

Sri Lanka, South Asia
Twenty-six years of civil war pitted Sri Lanka’s government forces, representing the Buddhist Sinhala majority, against Hindu Tamil separatists. The conflict resulted in upwards of 100,000 deaths. Although the conflict ended in 2009, tensions and accusations remain and promised truth and reconciliation commissions have not yet been successfully carried out. Sri Lanka has the longest continuous history of Buddhism of any predominately Buddhist nation. Buddhism combined with nationalism results in a surge of violent persecution towards all who are not Buddhist. This year has seen increased political instability and what appears to be a move away from democratic rule and a return to unquestioned power being held by those in authority.

Praise Report
Praise God for a Christian ministry reaching out to war widows. May the grace, kindness and provision that this ministry demonstrates, win many hearts and lives for Jesus (The Bible, Galatians 5:22).

Prayer Requests
Bless this nation with the ministry of reconciliation that is needed to heal the wounds of its past (The Bible, 2 Corinthians 5:17-18).

Pray that God will deal with the hearts of those in leadership and authority, bringing conviction of sin, and exposing a lust for power and control (The Bible, Ezekiel 34:4).

Call to Salvation
Heavenly Father, we call forth those who are seeking for Truth and Hope to come boldly into Your Family today. Give them courage to make the choice to follow You (The Bible, Matthew 4:19).
