Day 17

China, East Asia
The world’s most populous country, China is also the world’s second largest by land area. With a focus on nationalism, the Communist government tries to maintain social order by prohibiting large meetings and some social media sites. Mission organizations say that the church is the largest social force in China not controlled by the Communist Party. Authorities have continued their harshest crack down on Christianity since the Cultural Revolution. Even the Bible is being “rewritten” to better reflect the government’s communist worldview. Relations between China and the international community have been strained in the last year due to its increasing intervention in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the South China Sea. US China relations are also at their lowest point in decades. The COVID-19 virus originated in China in late 2019 and spread around the world during 2020. China has also been devastated by massive flooding this year.

Praise Report
Praise God that despite the harsh crackdown on the Church in the last couple of years, it continues to grow in number and vision to reach the nation with the Gospel (The Bible, Luke 19:10).

Prayer Requests
Bless church leaders with supernatural wisdom in these days. Bless them also with unity with one another (The Bible, 1 Corinthians 1:10).

Pray for those who have been affected by COVID-19, and by the flooding. The floods have killed hundreds and displaced millions. Pray that God will move powerfully at this time (The Bible, Mark 11:24).

Call to Salvation
Pray for the young generation of Chinese to experience a hunger for truth and freedom that leads them to salvation (The Bible, Luke 6:21).

Djibouti, East Africa
Ismail Omar Guelleh is the President and the Prime minister is Abdoulkader KamilMohamed. Djibouti has seen a rapid spike in CORONAVIRUS cases with the Horn of Africa nation now recording the highest prevalence on the continent as the population largely ignores measures imposed by authorities. The jump in cases is largely because of mass testing. Djibouti, with a population of about one million, has conducted more than 10,000 tests - a similar number to neighbouring Ethiopia, which has more than 100 million people. More alarming than the soaring infection figure is the runaway rate of multiplication: In just two weeks, Djibouti has recorded a seven-fold increase in cases. The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said with 98.6 cases for every 100,000 people, Djibouti has the highest prevalence on the continent.

Praise Report
We praise God that the head of Djibouti’s main COVID-19 response center is systematically treating the COVID-19 patients to keep the country's low death rate (The Bible, Psalm 68:20).

Prayer Requests
Authorities conceded the virus has not been successfully contained since a nationwide lockdown was imposed when Djibouti had just a few recorded cases of COVID-19. We pray that the disease caused by the novel CORONAVIRUS will not get worse (The Bible, Psalm 106:30).

The inability to control the outbreak has irritated Djibouti's powerful President Ismail Omar Guelleh who is not bound by term limits. We pray that the president and the people will plead God’s merciful intervention (The Bible, Daniel 2:18).

Call to Salvation
We pray that with the Church and the Believers will pray and take care of those struggling in this pandemic time of uncertainty, anxiety, grief and suffering (The Bible, Isaiah 52:9).
